Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve begun my research into NFTs and have found the following:
Many big names, not just in music, have started to familiarise themselves with or promote the use of NFTs.
For example, Gary Vee (Gary Vaynerchuk) has dived into this area and has created ‘VeeFriends’, which his website describes as:
VeeFriends is the name of Gary Vaynerchuk’s NFT collection. He created VeeFriends to bring to life his ambitions of building a community around his creative and business passions using technology and their smart contract capabilities. By owning a VeeFriend NFT, you immediately become part of the VeeFriends community and get access to VeeCon.
Gary Vee has a track record in spotting future trends and identifying platforms which are about to take off, and he is going hard on NFTs. I’m halfway through watching a recording of a recent talk Gary gave in London, during which, he expounds on NFTs and why we as artists should get on board, so I will write about what I learn from that in due course.

Snoop Dogg is another one. The self-proclaimed “king of NFTs” has created a Twitter account under the moniker CozomoMedici, based on the name of the 15th century Italian banker Cosimo de’ Medici, wanting to educate his followers on NFTs.
It was intended to be anonymous but he then tweeted that if he reached 10,000 followers by the end of a weekend in September 2021, come Monday, he will dox himself and reveal his true identity.
Menace World
Menace World is an up-and-coming NFT project based around unique characters, owned (at least partly), I believe, by Nate Hurst, Jake Salaheddine and Nick Novoa. You can find Menace World on Instagram and Discord*, which hosts a community discussion on NFTs. Looks like something to watch so I’ll keep an eye and keep you posted.
I’ve just given you three of the many big names in the world of NFTs.
*Discord is a communication platform offering VoIP, instant messaging and digital distribution. Users can be involved in a number of servers (group chats), with different communities in each of them. While Discord is geared towards gamers, enabling them to play and talk together, it’s also commonly used by people outside the gaming community. Many in the burgeoning NFT space, such as Menace World, and Bored Ape Yacht Club, have their own servers, allowing participants to meet and connect with other like-minded people within that community.
